Problems

  • Parents to babies born with medical conditions that require a feeding tube experience extreme stress levels.
  • Nurses have time for 1-2 demonstrations.
  • At home, parents feel isolated with no sufficient clinical support and knowledge, while this form of feeding will be, in most cases, permanent throughout the child’s life.

Challenges

  • For caregivers: How might we provide them with currently unmet services from birth until 18 + beyond in real time, + anticipate future needs?
  • How will we anticipate caregivers’ needs when the device doesn’t capture data?

Solutions

  • Create a new care model for caregivers to children requiring a feeding tube which connects a medical device, virtual clinical support, + education.
  • Anticipating caregivers’ needs through clinical support data + information caregivers record themselves + are willing to share.

Results

  • Created a new care model strategy connecting a new feeding tube, 24/7 real-time remote clinical care + support via video + text, + education on nuanced, sensitive topics we’ve learned about from caregivers.
  • Prototyped + tested.
